Instructor Spotlight: Kiari Kirk

List five words that best describe you…
Goofy, Sensitive, Responsible, Quiet, Romantic

What inspired you to teach dance and fitness?

I’ve always loved to choreograph and teach others. However it was my first Hip Hop coach Ms. Tee who gave me the confidence and purpose in teaching. To pass on the knowledge you’ve learned to the next generation and give back just like what she had done for me. I’ve always been a very insecure and shy individual, and still am. Dance is my venue to be someone else (KiKi) a fun, outgoing individual. So if I have the opportunity to help others tap into that hidden confident self through dance. Sign me up.

What would you like your students to know about you?

That I am horrible at remembering names so the more we talk the quicker I can remember yours. Also I am a natural introvert, outside of class I spend majority of my time alone (don’t feel bad for me). So if I don’t approach you it’s not because I don’t like you. I just don’t know what to say sometimes; working on it.

What are your favorite hobbies and interests?

Oh geez…I love to do activities like hiking, bowling, rollerblading, swimming. But I am also a huge nerd and play video games and watch movies.

At what age did you begin dancing? And when did you know you wanted to teach others?

I’ve been dancing to Michael Jackson songs since Thriller came out, but I joined my first Hip Hop competitive dance when I turned 14. Pretty late in the dance community. As a matter of fact I didn’t take my first Modern class until my Junior year in high school and ballet was freshman year of college and I dropped out of school all together and started teaching right away. Haven’t stopped since.
