Instructor Spotlight: Lisa Medford

List five words that best describe you?
My closest friends describe me as Funny, Fluid, Inventive, Resilient, Patient

What inspired you to teach dance and fitness?
I grew up in a serious ballet school. When I was 15, we had a pop up hip-hop class (before pop up classes existed). The teacher told me I should take on hip-hop, so after that I started teaching pretend classes in my room to Justin Timberlake with dim lights in a blue towel bucket hat, and it filled me up.

What would you like your students to know about you?
I pour every bit of myself into what I create for my classes. It’s not always easy in this busy mom/LA life, but music is my medicine. I treasure my time, and I love sharing with those who appreciate…so naturally, everything I bring to class has much love.

What are your favorite hobbies and interests?
Something I’m constantly thinking about is how alike we all are despite our different paths. My interest really lies in connecting and learning from people with open minds and hearts.

At what age did you begin dancing?
I began dancing at 2 years old , mimicking choreography off my moms jazz dance performance videos. She always starred as the bad ass villain characters in our small hometown recitals in Klamath Falls Oregon. I knew I wanted to teach when I realized at 16 years old that all of my idols were not Olympians, pop stars , or actresses, but teachers. They were all unique, brilliant, and full of joy.
